Biography

I began my tutoring career in the 1980’s when I volunteer tutored inner-city children in Washington, D.C. At that time I also worked for the Federal government and at night I studied to earn my Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Maryland in Child Development and Communications, with honors.  Since then I relocated back home to California and Placerville.

I have over 15 years of experience as a professional tutor.   I have been tutoring professionally at Folsom Lake Community College, for 12 years in the Office for Disabled Students Programs and Services, and currently in the English Reading and Writing Center.  I have tutored many college subjects, including anthropology, anatomy and physiology, biology, history, remedial math, algebra and English.  The majority of the time I have specialized in working with students who have disabilities of all types, including learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, blindness, deafness, and emotional disabilities. I am a member of the Learning Disabilities Association of America.  I have attended a number of Learning Disability training conferences, and continually update my knowledge of successful teaching modalities for students with disabilities, which I discovered can also be very helpful in teaching any student who needs assistance.   

Additionally, for the past eleven years I worked as a professional tutor for a local private tutoring company during after school hours. I tutored elementary through high school students at all levels of development and ability, from beginning readers to advanced placement high school classes, covering all class subjects plus annual STAR testing, CAHSEE, the California State Exit Exam, and the SAT college entry exam.
